![]() ![]() “Bush didn’t question Clinton’s patriotism! What’s everyone talking about?!” “See?” I remember him saying indignantly. In defense of Bush, Rush showed his audience a clip from a different part of Bush’s speech. Bush was under fire for questioning Bill Clinton’s patriotism because Clinton had protested the Vietnam War while on foreign soil (at Oxford). and I stumbled upon a clip from the TV show Rush had back then. The first time I heard of Rush Limbaugh was in the early 1990s, when I was researching something for a sketch I was writing for S.N.L. The point is, I don’t know where exactly my particular obsession with lies and lying liars came from. My parents taught me to tell the truth, but come on, whose parents didn’t? Well, O.K., maybe Trump’s. I don’t know why dishonesty has always gotten so under my skin. Of all of the many things that bothered me about Donald Trump’s campaign, the one that bothered me the most was the lying. ![]()
